Mattress Pressure Relief Explained

How mattress contouring, firmness and body position work together to influence pressure comfort.

Pressure relief is about distribution

A mattress can reduce concentrated loading by allowing heavier contact points to sink enough for weight to spread across a broader area. Too little contour can feel sharp; too much can compromise support or make movement harder.

Body position matters

Side sleepers often notice pressure around shoulders and hips most clearly. Back and stomach sleepers typically place different demands on the surface.

Do not treat softness as a synonym

A softer mattress is not automatically better at pressure relief for every sleeper. Comfort-layer design, body weight and support underneath the surface all matter.
